The Senate just voted to approve, by a margin of 76-22, the Kyl/Lieberman "Sense of the Senate" amendment on Iran.
Senator Dodd was one of the few voting no, and had this to say of vote:
"I cannot support the Kyl-Lieberman amendment on Iran. To do so could give this President a green light to act recklessly and endanger US national security. We learned in the run up to the Iraq war that seemingly nonbinding language passed by this Senate can have profound consequences. We need the president to use robust diplomacy to address concerns with Iran, not the language in this amendment that the president can point to if he decides to draw this country into another disastrous war of choice."
He added:
“We shouldn’t repeat our mistakes and enable this President again.”

Senator Dodd, thanks so much for your effort to rein in the Bush administration by voting against this amendment. I'm sure I'm not the only one out here who would like to hear your ideas on why so many Democrats voted for it -- how is it possible that they haven't gotten a clue about why we voted for them last fall?? I am very grateful for you and the other 21 Senators who are standing up for common sense and true representation of their party.
Thank you Senator Dodd, for always standing up for "We the People". It's good to know we have you on our side in Washington. You can be counted on to consistantly act in the best interest of the American people and not this administrations greedy "War machine".
I am so grateful our state has, in you, a Senator with true integrity. Too many others seem to be blindly following Bush's every arbitrary word. I don't understand how anyone could support a President who swore to uphold the laws and customs that we hold dear as Americans, and yet consistantly and seemingly willfully, ignores the will of the people. This administration shreds our Constitution every chance it gets. In you we will once more have a true leader and we'll be a safer country for electing you. Thanks for all you do.
The question is, why are Americans so insecure that they keep needing to pick on weaklings. Are we making enemies simply to justify our new weapons systems?
I am Proud of Senator Dodd who unlike Hillary voted against Lieberman-kyl-Bush and this ridiculous Iran issue! Keep up the good fight and keep making sense!
Senator Dodd is a true leader. Thank you for opposing this amendment and advocating a productive way forward.
Once again our elected leaders, by their votes, have shown us that we indeed have the best government money can buy. Senators Dodd and Biden have shown us that they are not on the pay role. They are a breath of fresh air.
