DODD CONGRATULATES KEOKUK ON WIND TOWER PLANT, CALLS FOR INCREASED FEDERAL PARTNERSHIP IN RENEWABLE ENERGY

Release text:

Senator and Presidential Candidate Chris Dodd released the following statement today regarding the new wind tower manufacturer in Keokuk:

"The addition of another wind tower manufacturer is very positive news for southeastern Iowa's economy and will bring much needed growth to Keokuk's local economy. I congratulate members of the local, state, advocacy, and business communities for their leadership and commitment to developing sources of renewable energy in their community.

"As Governor Culver noted, Iowa has tremendous potential to be a true leader in renewable energy efforts and indeed ‘the Silicon Valley’ of the Midwest. But the state cannot do it alone - the federal government must be a better partner for local communities and the state in developing the renewable energy industry.

“As President, I will invest $50 billion a year in the research, development, and marketing of renewable energy technologies by drawing from revenues earned off of making dirty energy more expensive. As part of my plan to revitalize rural America, I will also help family farmers and ranchers secure loans in order to participate in wind projects such as this one."
