DES MOINES, IA - Participating in a traditional Iowa political custom at the Iowa State Fair, Presidential Candidate Chris Dodd addressed a crowd of Iowans on issues affecting the middle class and America's moral authority in the world. Dodd, who last week unveiled his comprehensive education policy, which would make college more affordable for all Americans and improve schools across the country, has continually highlighted issues affecting the middle class through a series of policy proposals aimed at combating the middle class squeeze.
"As President, I will make a bedrock commitment to rebuilding our nation's middle class, to fixing our broken health care system, lowering energy costs, and, above all else, giving every American the opportunity for a world-class education," Dodd said. "With 26 years of standing up for working families, for union families, good jobs and security in retirement, Iowa knows that middle class values will be front and center in a Dodd White House."
Dodd, who has a history of bold leadership in the Senate, fought through three Presidents and two Presidential vetoes to pass the landmark Family and Medical Leave Act, which has prevented millions of Americans from choosing between caring for a loved one and keeping their job and is leading the charge to restore habeas corpus with his Restoring the Constitution Act, called for restoring America's Moral Authority in the world.
"There is nothing more important to me than restoring America's Moral Authority in the world, and that starts with restoring the Constitution," said Dodd. "The rule of law is critical to our democracy and our way of life and that is why, as President, the first thing that I will do is overturn the Military Commissions Act, because it is counter to everything we hold dear as a nation."
Dodd will continue to campaign across Iowa with his family through Monday, August 20th
