DODD SUBMITS YOUTUBE QUESTION FOR GOP CANDIDATES, ASKS HOW THEY WILL RESTORE CONSTITUTION

Release text:

DES MOINES - Today, Senator and Presidential candidate Chris Dodd submitted a question for the Republican presidential candidates’ CNN/YouTube debate. In his online video posted on YouTube, Dodd asks the GOP contenders if they believe Americans must give up rights in order to be safe and what they would do to protect the Constitution. The text of Dodd's question is below:

"Hi I'm Chris Dodd.

"I'm from East Haddam, Connecticut.

"And my family and I are spending a little time in Iowa these days.

"I have a question about the Constitution. Many Americans are concerned that the Administration seems to be making a false choice. That is, to be safer we have to give up rights. I don't believe that, I wonder if you do. And if you believe we ought not to give up our rights, what would you do in order to protect our Constitution?"

Dodd, an outspoken critic of the Bush administration's assault on our Constitution, believes that adherence to the rule of law directly affects America's standing in the world and in turn our national security. Dodd, the author of the Restoring the Constitution Act, again showed his courage and leadership in leading the fight against providing immunity to telecommunications companies who were complicit in the Bush administration's domestic spying program.

Next week in Iowa, Sen. Dodd will embark on a week-long 'Rule of Law' tour talking about restoring the Constitution and the rights and protections it affords us all.
