Dodd Statement on the Passing of Senator Frank Lautenberg

Washington, DC – Former Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) released the following statement upon learning of the passing of his close friend and colleague, Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ).

“Name any piece of major legislation that the Senate has worked on over the past forty years and you will find that Frank Lautenberg played an instrumental role in ensuring that the concerns of middle class Americans were reflected in them.

Frank was a Senator's Senator who understood how to make the legislative process work for his constituents back home in New Jersey.  He never stopped fighting for the state he loved - even when he could have been forgiven for stepping back and taking it easy.  And, on a far more personal level, he was a dear friend who I enjoyed serving with every day for almost four decades.

He taught me many things - not just about being a senator but about being a father and a husband, and I will miss him dearly.  Frank Lautenberg will be remembered as one of the great ones.”
