Dodd Thanks Peace Corps Director Aaron Williams For His Service

Washington, DC – Former Senator and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Chris Dodd released the following statement today thanking Aaron Williams for his service as the Director of the Peace Corps and recognizing him for his accomplishments over the last three years.

“Director Williams’ accomplishments at the Peace Corps are a strong testament to the faith and confidence that President Obama placed in him three years ago.  Aaron has been a close friend and dedicated supporter of the Peace Corps since I first met him in the Dominican Republic nearly fifty years ago. Hisselection as Director was an excellent choice by President Obama and I was proud to oversee his confirmation.  He has proven to be a very capable leader who, despite challenges, is leaving the Peace Corps in better position to support its volunteers and promote its mission.”

In 1966, as a recent graduate of Providence College, Chris Dodd volunteered for the Peace Corps and shipped off to the tiny village ofMonción in the Dominican Republic. Over the course of the two years that heserved in that remote community near the Haitian border, Chris Dodd gained fluency in Spanish and developed a strong and abiding passion for Latin America and the work of the Peace Corps. As senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Chairman of the subcommittee with jurisdiction over the agency, Dodd was a staunch advocate for the volunteers and work of the Peace Corps throughout his service in the U.S. Senate.
