The Field Report

Sunday night, a small group from the Dodd campaign convened at a friend’s apartment to watch the last game of this Red Sox-Yankees series. It was about as good as a game early in the season can get, featuring lead changes, a lot of scoring and some great defensive plays.
And as the Red Sox set a franchise record by belting their fourth consecutive home run, the Dodd staff was just trying relax after four jam-packed days of campaigning with Senator Dodd.
As great as this series was, we didn’t mind missing it, as we spent four great days with Senator Dodd’s traveling over 400 miles of New Hampshire mountains, rolling hills and back roads (with no cell coverage) in eleven New Hampshire cities in five different counties.
Over the four days, Senator Dodd was able to meet hundreds of Granite Staters at Diners, “Kitchen Table Conversations,” House Parties, and Public Forums throughout New Hampshire. Throughout this trip, it became clear that the interest and excitement over Senator Dodd’s candidacy is growing.
During this last trip, Senator Dodd brought his “Kitchen Table Conversations Tour” to New Hampshire, with stops in Nashua, Conway, and Claremont.” (Concord Monitor) Every day Senator Dodd was welcomed into the home of a New Hampshire family to sit around a kitchen table and discuss the issues affecting their lives.
While Chris Dodd also met with voters at more traditional house parties and delivered several speeches, the Kitchen Table events were by far the most rewarding, both for the Senator and the participants. In this more intimate setting—speaking to between 6 and 9 people—Senator Dodd was able to get to speak to these individuals, but more importantly, they got the opportunity to get to know Chris Dodd. What was the outcome of this? Speaking to participants after a kitchen table event, I heard time and again how impressed people were with how good-natured, sincere and presidential they found Chris Dodd to be.
Dodd spent a lot of time on his trip talking about his recently released energy proposal, which calls for real action—not more rhetoric—to address the energy crisis our country faces. He spoke at Southern New Hampshire University about how our current energy policy has negatively affected our foreign policy. On Earth Day, he outlined what America’s energy policy would be under a Dodd administration to more than 50 residents of Keene (Keene Sentinel).
Overall, Chris Dodd and the Dodd Squad had a great trip garnering support from all over the state. I know the Senator can’t wait to get back to New Hampshire in the upcoming weeks— and we can’t wait to have him again. And while we may have missed the games, the Senator did get an opportunity to share his thoughts on the Red Sox-Yankees Rivalry.
