Dodd: Close Guantanamo, Restore Our Moral Authority

Today, Senator Dodd released the following statement on closing the prisons at Guantanamo Bay.
"Rather than helping to protect the nation, the prisons at Guantanamo Bay have instead become the symbol for our decreased moral standing in the world and in so doing made us less secure. For the sake of American security, the prisons at Guantanamo Bay must be closed. "I am pleased that the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals today ruled that holding people without trial is illegal, but we cannot wait for the next President to restore our moral authority - we have to restore our standing in the world by having the conviction to stand up to this President now. This begins with closing the prisons at Guantanamo Bay and restoring Habeas Corpus rights to those in our custody. That is why, in addition to co-sponsoring legislation that would close the Guantanamo Bay facility, I have introduced the Restoring the Constitution Act, which would go a long way toward reversing the most pernicious aspects of the Bush Administration's destructive Military Commissions Act. "I call on all candidates running for President to join me in clearly expressing their support for an up-or-down vote on the Restoring the Constitution Act."
Senator Dodd is a co-sponsor of S. 1249, a bill introduced by Senator Dianne Feinstein that will require the closure of the prisons at Guantanamo Bay. Senator Dodd is the only presidential candidate to co-sponsor this bill.

Would Sen. Dodd please issue a position statement, agreeing or disagreeing, with the Supreme Court's ruling in the case of Long Island Care at Home, Ltd., v. Evelyn Coke? Thank you.
