Senator Dodd Responds to Candidates' Reactions to the Surge

Here's a statement from Senator Dodd that went to press only moments ago.
"Despite the exemplary performance of our troops, we are coming off the bloodiest summer of this misguided war and it should be clear that there can be no military solution in Iraq.
"It is useless to argue the merits of a specific tactic when the strategy itself is failed.
"In fact, debating over military tactics when there is no military solution only undermines efforts by those of us who believe that we must change course in Iraq now and begin to immediately redeploy US combat forces so that Iraqi leaders will have the impetus to find a political accord."

I'm sorry to see the qualification "combat forces." The American military installations (radar, missile, communications) need to be dismantled and the troops that service them taken out.
Sure would have been nice if someone would have been thinking strategically back in 2002.
People make mistakes. Given that finding a semi-permanent base for the U.S. military in the Indian Ocean region had been a goal since Viet Nam proved unsuitable, the Arabian Peninsula looked like an attractive alternative.
Now it's probably back to Somalia.
I agree. I also am glad you now regret your vote to authorize Bush to use force, however, I was well aware at the time that Bush wanted the war and was lying about WMD and links to Al Qaeda.
I have been a great admirer of yours throughout your Senate career but in this case you did something with extremely poor judgement... You trusted George Bush. The alternative is that it was an act of political cowardice which I hope is not the case.
Just in case the blog is getting more staff attention than the scroll at the top of the page or the events page, I'd like to pose a question about car bombs and Ayad Allawi.
Is it true that Ayad Allawi was paid by the CIA during the administration of Saddam Hussein and that, under the auspices of the CIA, he ordered the making and exploding of car bombs in an effort to destabilize the recognized government of Iraq? If it is true, then would not Allawi's selection as Prime Minister mean that the terrorists have taken over Iraq?
Finally, is the Senator familiar with Reagan's NSDD-166 directive and is it still in effect?
Is sabotage not a violation of international law and treaties which have the same effect as the Constitution itself?
