One week after the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and a week before the sixth anniversary of 9/11, Chris Dodd today unveiled a comprehensive first responders policy proposal that outlines actions he would take as President to keep our nation safe and American families secure. Dodd's plan would ensure that our first responders have the tools they need to keep themselves and our communities safe; that we are able to keep and recruit first responders; and that our communities are prepared to respond to any emergency situation.
"I am running for President because the time has come for trusted, proven leadership that gives our first responders what they need to get the job done - to keep America as safe and secure in the 21st century as she was in the last. Something has gone terribly wrong in this country when it comes to service these last six years - to what our leaders are asking of our first responders and what they are providing in return for that sacrifice. We need a leader who gives first responders the tools they need to do their jobs and the quality of life they need to stay on the job. If we want the country to be ready, we will need a President who is every bit as ready."

It would be really neat if Chris Dodd could be the first to respond in the revelation from George W. Bush, as referenced by Keith Oldermann in his special comment, that he's "playing" to get the presidential candidates "comfortable" with the idea that the U.S. military will stay in Iraq as originally planned--i.e. as a semi-permanent presence to keep tabs on Russia and China and India and all the other "emerging" powers in the Eastern Hemisphere.
I was hoping that Hillary Clinton would have sufficient guts to bring out into the open what was obviously planned by the Pentagon during her husband's term, but, it seems that she likes the idea of being a military counter-weight in the region.
What I find particularly vile is that millions of Iraqis were killed or violently disfigured because a nuclear detonation by people who'd never used nukes might be worse and now millions of Iranians are being targeted for the same dumb reason. I don't know how much longer we can expect the people of Asia and the Middle East to put up with this madness.
There is no reasoning with the insane. They have to be stopped. I would prefer us to do the stopping, rather than count on Russia stepping up to the plate.
One sign of insanity is a lack of situational awareness. That certainly seems to be the case here.
