Announcement Roundup

Hi everyone. Sorry for the long radio silence. We're still getting our sea legs here on the blog, and we hope updates will become more regular. I wanted to just spend a minute recapping Friday's events. Senator Dodd held a huge rally at the historic Old State House before he began a weekend visit to New Hampshire. The room was packed, and there were overflow crowds both inside and outside the statehouse. Mayor of Hartford Eddie Perez and Representative Rosa DeLauro provided enthusiastic introductions before Senator Dodd's speech. It was a great sendoff for the campaign before the New Hampshire trip. We hope to have pictures and video of the Senator's New Hampshire trip later today. Finally, we'd like to let you all know that Senator Dodd will be liveblogging over at FireDogLake this afternoon starting at around 4:15 EST. Here is some of the local coverage of the Friday's announcement: The Hartford Courant: Dodd holds homestate rally to kick off campaign trip:
Supporters at Friday's rally, including many of the state's top Democrats, said they believe Dodd has a good chance, despite the large number of expected candidates for 2008. [...] "Our experience, our values tell us there is only one candidate in the race with the experience, intelligence and passion to take on that fight and win the presidency," said U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., who introduced Dodd and his family.
The New London Day: Dodd At Rally: 'I'm Going To Win The Presidency':
Saying an announcement in his home state was “what my heart required me to do,” Dodd announced his plans to travel to New Hampshire later tonight, for a weekend of campaigning that comes a full year before primary voters will start to determine the Democratic nominee for the White House in 2008. [...] Let me tell you,” he said, to cheers, “I’m going to be the Democratic nominee, and I’m going to win the presidency.”

My Left Nutmeg: The Dodd Show:
What was remarkable to me about the event was the really genuine affection everyone in the audience had for the Senator: you can tell when an audience just recognizes the applause lines and does their duty, this was a room that had a lot of respect and admiration for Dodd, and I'd be very surprised if any of the heavies in attendance (state officials or Congressionals) held back in endorsing him.
Connecticut Local Politics: Chris Dodd Comes Home:
After announcing his candidacy on Imus last week, Senator Chris Dodd came back to Connecticut for a rally on his home turf. As I mentioned in my photos post, the front rows were full of familiar faces. Connecticut Democrats, no matter what their philosophical leanings, are very proud of our senior Senator.
Finally, how can we not post this masterwork by Scarce?

Tim,
This is great stuff, and dont worry about the blog this is a marathon not a sprint. You are getting things posted and the lay out is good. Things in Ohio are going great, we are getting Senator Dodds name out there and we can't wait until his first visit to the Buckeye State.

Hello! A few days ago, I filled out the form to get involved in the campaign. A few days have passed, and I have had no reply. I fear that the campaign organization is letting eager supporters like me fall by the wayside. Senator Dodd's team will have to bring their A-game in order to hang with the likes of Obama and Clinton. So come on folks, how can I get seriously involved?

I am a bright, lifelong CT resident, who love the state and loves America. But I'm seriously concerned that our top leadership has steered the ship on a terrible course for since 2001.

I'll be done with a Master of Public Serivce degree in a couple weeks. I served in the Peace Corps, worked for the CT DEP, for former Congressman Sam Gejdenson, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and campaigned for Pres. Clinton in '92 and Shaun McNally's bid against Sullivan in the CT-2 primary in 2004.

I'm articulate, organized, passionate, rational, and have a keen idea about the issues that matter most and how to frame them. I also am not afraid to fight hard.

My call to you of the Dodd organization all is get me involved in this campaign. Let's get this train rolling.

Tim,
Can you post Senator Dodds response to the State of the Union speech as soon as he release's it ? I am assuming he will have a statement on it, and I would like to blog it asap.

Audrey January 23, 2007 - 4:42pm

Wanted to make sure I could find you. Nice setup. I think Sen Dodd can be a real contender. Thanks to the good Senator for all his hard work for Lamont and America. I think he really understands what kind of changes are needed.
:)

Warmly
Audrey

Audry--Glad you like the setup--and we're always open to suggestions. Senator Dodd had a really ejoyable (but brief) time at the Lake today and we hope to answer the questions that came up after he rushed off to vote. It's was a good start.

That was a tremendous speech by the Senator.

How do I disagree without taking anything from Chris Dodd's speech on Friday? .... YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' YET! "Tremendous"? Well, you had better check your meter because, as I have seen from past campaign stumps, I believe that before this thing ends (with victory) he will hit his stride your meter better be able to read Stupendous!

Hi All--

I just wanted to take a moment to explain why I deleted John in Ohio's post. John did an admirable, but possibly semi-legal thing: he posted Senator Dodd's response to the State of the Union, taken directly from the Senator Dodd's official senate-affiliated website. Currently, campaign finance laws and Senate ethics prohibit us from using material from, or linking to, that website.

That being said, you are all free to link to such material from your own websites and blogs, but it can't end up here on this blog.

Thanks for your understanding.

I was hoping Sen. Kerry would make another run but now that he has decided not to, Sen. Dodd is my next choice. Good luck. This is an odd presidential contest already; I look forward to the debates.

john in ohio January 24, 2007 - 6:19pm

Sorry Tim,
I will not make that mistake again.

Now that it is official, time to support Senator Dodd. Use the link to vote for him now.

VOTE FOR CHRIS DODD HERE

john in ohio January 25, 2007 - 9:38am

With John Kerry not running the northeast should belong to Chris Dodd. I respect John Kerry and feel he would have been a great President, and I respect him for not running. With that said I believe Senator Chris Dodd should and will pick up major support in the Northeast. I also feel with Senator Dodds past accomplishments and his willingness to fight for middle class values and jobs will do very well in the Midwest, Southeast, and West. He appeals to all parts of the country and offers a strong bold vision that will be well received. Good Luck Senator Kerry and Thanks for all you have done for this great Country.

The site looks great, Tim. Good luck with it and the campaign.
