America needs to step up its submarine production or it risks being overtaken by China, U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd said on Thursday.
The Democratic senator from Connecticut and presidential candidate toured the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard with union officials as part of a campaign swing through the Granite State.
"By the year 2010, the Chinese will have double the size of the submarines that we have," he told a small gathering of media and onlookers.
Dodd said the Chinese Navy will be larger by 2015. To address the problem, Dodd said he is lobbying the Defense Department to increase the number of submarines being built each year from one to two.

As a registered Democrat I was appalled that all of the Democratic candidates were in favor of the Immigration Reform Bill.
Thankfully, American citizens made their voices heard, and the bill was defeated.
I will not vote for any Presidential hopeful who does not do the following:
1. Secure all U.S. borders and enforce all Federal
laws in all 50 States.
2. Prosecute employers who hire illegal aliens.
3. Have all law enforcement agents actively seek
out illegal aliens and individuals who have
overstayed the visa limitations for
deportation.
4. Place a sharp limit on immigration applicants
each year.
5. Welcome any and all immigrants, within annual
limits, who qualify for legal immigration.
American citizens made it clear before the votes were made on the immigration bill last week that we will not elect anyone who will not protect our citizens or country. We are a nation of immigrants, but the generations who formed our country did so within the law of the land and never demanded privileges they had not earned. Don't reward criminal acts with amnesty.

Building more submarines is probably good for Electic Boat in Groton, CT but why does Sen. Dodd want to start a new cold war with China? How many completely useless and wasteful nuclear weapons platforms do we need? Do we really need to be able to bounce the rubble of nuclear anihilation more times than we can now? This is hardly consistent with the Senator's avowed claim to want to end the war in Iraq and restore our role as peacemaker in the world. Either he has to run for Senator of Connecticut or President of the US. We don't need any more missile carrying subs!

I have been a Democrat all my life andI am 73 years old.
I am against illeagle Immigration. With gas at $3.00 a
gallon and the money men running the country, I don`t see much hope for the middle class. Guess I should register
independent.
