Luck Of The Irish In Manchester

Dave Osborne's picture

On Sunday morning, March 18th, Senator Chris Dodd joined with Manchester’s Democrats at the Tower Café for the 9th annual St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast. Over 300 activists and elected officials attended the event sponsored by the Manchester City Democrats, an organization that’s done really well the past few years. Senator Dodd has been a part of New Hampshire Democrats’ success – last year, he campaigned for now-Representatives Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes, two Democrats who defeated incumbent Republicans.

The breakfast was organized to celebrate current Democratic Party Chair Kathy Sullivan’s service to the state party. Sullivan will be stepping down from her position after 8 years of success for New Hampshire Democrats unseen since the late nineteenth century. Many of the major political figures in the state and the city came to laud the job that Sullivan did during her tenure. Among those fêting Sullivan: Governor John Lynch, State Senators Lou D’Allesandro and Betsi DeVries and a host of state representatives from the Manchester area and beyond. Past officials, like Mayor Bob Baines and others, also came to thank Kathy for her generous service.

This was a crowd made for Senator Dodd, the consumate “Democrat’s Democrat.” The boisterous, colorful group had to love that Dodd is Irish the other 364 days of the year, either.

After his speech, Dodd attracted a throng of admirers who peppered him with praise and questions. We pulled away from the café, and though the trip was barely over, we already began looking to the next time Senator Dodd would be in the state, and the next time we’d have the opportunity to showcase our candidate. Even if St. Patrick’s Day only happens once a year, Senator Dodd will continue to be in high demand in New Hampshire.

How about Kathy Sullivan and Judy Reardon joking about launching a "fatwah" against Congressman Paul Hodes? Does Senator Dodd thin it is appropriate to make this sort of a remark about a Jewish public official?

Paul Hodes did the right thing in denouncing Ray Buckley. He doesn't deserve to be the subject of racially offensive attacks.

Will Sen. Dodd condemn this crap?
