Senator Dodd Responds to Candidates' Reactions to the Surge

Tim Tagaris's picture
Here's a statement from Senator Dodd that went to press only moments ago.
"Despite the exemplary performance of our troops, we are coming off the bloodiest summer of this misguided war and it should be clear that there can be no military solution in Iraq.

"It is useless to argue the merits of a specific tactic when the strategy itself is failed.

"In fact, debating over military tactics when there is no military solution only undermines efforts by those of us who believe that we must change course in Iraq now and begin to immediately redeploy US combat forces so that Iraqi leaders will have the impetus to find a political accord."

Sen. Dodd on Raising Troop Levels in Iraq

Matt Browner-Hamlin's picture
Senator Chris Dodd today released the following statement in response to a Hearst report on increased troop levels in Iraq:
"Today's report that the number of U.S. troops in Iraq could increase to over 200,000, shows that President Bush is inextricably wed to his failed policy in Iraq. The President's continued unwillingness to change course underscores the urgency for Congress to do what it must do to responsibly end this war by setting a firm deadline for redeployment that's tied to funding."
